Heartfelt words from our Floral Student: {Carol Bagary}
Back in 2018, I felt a strong inner calling to pursue something creative and beautiful as a possible shift in career. After checking out all the flower schools in Singapore, Poppy Flower School was the one I was most drawn to - in fact the ONLY one I would consider! I was drawn to the organic beauty of Sarah's work, as well as her philosophy on art and design and positivity.
I became one of Sarah's "Intensive" student, and my world changed. Every lesson was eye-opening, humbling, meditative yet technically challenging. Every lesson built on the previous. Every lesson taught me something about life. Sarah was not the kind of teacher I had expected. She opened my eyes to see the "language" of nature - what the stems are saying to us as floral artists - where they want to dance and play in the arrangement. I learnt that stunning floral art can be created from scrappy flowers and foraged branches and foliage. I learnt to be a true artist, creating beauty from any floral materials.
Of course, Sarah taught me the techniques of making bouquets, installations, bridal work etc. But for me, the greatest takeaway from being her Intensive student is that I have found in Sarah a life-long mentor and friend. She opened my eyes to see and appreciate the lesser known and underappreciated beauties of nature. We both share a common belief that nature is one of our greatest teacher about life, resilience, letting go... and embracing it all. We are both thankful to God for this gift of nature.
I signed up with Sarah to learn the techniques and the business of running a floral business. In the process, I became an artist - both with botanics and with watercolor - to inspire joy, to share love, to give comfort - through beauty and generosity. For me, the latter is infinitely more valuable.
